Making Space for You: How Counselling can Help you as a Parent and Carer.
As a parent or carer, finding time to look after your own mental health can feel impossible - for starters, when do you find time to fit it in? What we do know, is that it is also one of the most important things we can do. When we, as parents and carers, feel better mentally, we are in a much better place to support our children.
Counselling is just one way we can look after our mental wellbeing. It's more than just talking. It is a safe, non-judgemental and supportive space where you can share, explore and learn. You may be looking for a place to explore the many challenges you are facing as a parent or carer of a trauma experienced child. You might be feeling stuck and want to explore how you can move forwards. Maybe you're struggling with your own emotional regulation and want to learn some skills to do this more effectively.
There is no 'one size fits all' approach to counselling and a counsellor will work with you to create sessions that work for you. My sessions can be a mixture of the client sharing what is going on for them, exploring some of the theory around what is going on for the client and teaching strategies. The counsellor will help you to work towards the goals you want to achieve.
